THROUGH ETCHINGS, WOODCUTS, COLLAGES AND ASSEMBLAGES, I EXAMINE THE ELABORATE AND COMPLEX STRUCTURES FOUND IN THE NATURAL WORLD.
I recently moved to the Asheville area after living in Minneapolis for twenty years. I grew up in Boston and studied art at the Boston Museum School and received a degree from Tufts University. In 2002, after receiving a grant in sculpture from the Minnesota State Arts Board, I wanted to use some of the funds to learn a new skill. I decided to pursue and study etching. Soon I was also making wood cuts and combining those with the prints from the copper etchings. I began cutting out some of the prints and adding them as one more layer. Each process is done by hand and is time consuming but this slow pace allows each image to evolve on its own.
